I’ll admit it, I hopped on the Kid Cudi bandwagon late. He was on my radar for a long time, but it didn’t click until I listened to A Kid Named Cudi from start to finish. To this day, I still don’t understand why “Day N Nite” was his breakthrough song. “Man On The Moon”, “Embrace The Martian”, and “The Prayer” all got heavier rotation on my playlists. But shit, whatever works.

Since I wasn’t on board with Cudi at first, I missed some of his early work, like this ancient Chip Tha Ripper song he was featured on in mid-2008. Check it out.

Highlights From Chip Tha Ripper’s The Cleveland Show

I promised I’d do this, so here it is. I think a lot of people are torn on whether or not to check the new Chip Tha Ripper mixtape called The Cleveland Show. You’ve probably heard good things, but a lot of you probably don’t really fuck with Chip. I didn’t either. He’s one of those dudes that gets his name out mainly because he’s around the right people. Don’t get me wrong, he’s got some loyal fans that will throw a fit if you slander the man, but the average head has probably only heard him on features.

Coming from someone who isn’t a Chip Tha Ripper follower, this is an official recommendation. The mixtape is rock solid. The production is crazy. Chip isn’t going to get any “lyricist of the year” awards, but he kind of grows on you throughout the mixtape as an animated dude with personality. It makes for a very entertaining mixtape. At times, he sounds like a mix between KiD CuDi and Gucci Mane, which may seem impossible, but I think you’ll get what I mean if you listen. Here’s three of my early standouts. “Movie” is my shit right now.

Chip Tha Ripper – The Cleveland Show (Mixtape)

Here’s Chip’s new mixtape The Cleveland Show. Normally, I wouldn’t even care about Chip The Ripper’s releases. Only reason I even know who he is is because Cudi fucks with him. But the first track I heard from the tape was crazy, so why not give it a shot?

Update: The mixtape is sick. Definitely recommended.

Here’s a new track from Chip Tha Ripper and a couple friends you might know. Production done by one half of the Cool Kids on some smooth throwback shit. That synth bass line sounds like a bad guy’s theme song in an early 90’s video game. Badass. I’m liking this one. Credit to NR.
