Video! David Guetta ft Kid Cudi – "Memories"

DatNewCudi.com: Memories – David Guetta Feat. Kid Cudi from DP on Vimeo.

Here’s the official video for “Memories”. According to DP is was filmed in Miami in the streets and in a club filled with fans. I like the sound of this song, but it gets a little bland, almost like one long chorus.

P&P Moving to WordPress, Seeking Designer

Weird post, but here’s the deal: In the past 24 hours, 3 music blogs that I know of and 8 blogs that I’ve heard about got deleted completely by Blogger. I feel like it’s only a matter of time before I get the boot as well. I put a lot into this blog and if I woke up and the whole thing was gone, I would be, as stupid as it sounds, devastated.

I’ve said it a lot, but I think the time has finally come. I need to switch to WordPress. With the help of some fellow bloggers (Thanks to TheMusicNinja, WAWSTSF, PMA, Tympanogram, PopLibrarian, DatNewCudi, and everyone else who has offered to help) I think I’ll be able to get the site up there soon. It’s a pretty simple process from what I hear, but I promise it will be a stressful, anxiety causing, traumatic experience for me, so keep me in your thoughts.

The good news is WordPress seems to have more features, customizability, and tolerance for music blogs, who often walk a fine line between promotion tools for labels and perceived profit thieves. I think it’s safe to say that most of us just want to share music and talk about it, and we believe that what we are doing is good for the artists, the fans, and ultimately ends up as a new tool for labels to use to push their product and form a strong fan base among the online community before artists even release an album. I’m rambling.

What I was trying to get to, if you’re still reading this, is that I’m going to need to redesign the site. I want to keep things pretty simple and maintain some of the elements I already have. As you may know, I have very limited skills when it comes to stuff like this, so I’m going to need to hire someone. If you have any suggestions, please email me at PigeonsAndPlanes at gmail.

Free Weezy

Every time a rapper gets arrested, there are “Free (insert rapper name)” campaigns, complete with shirts, stickers, songs, and tributes to the lives of these individuals – well, mostly just shirts. (“Free Gucci!” or “Free Prodigy!” or “Free T.I.!“) I always make fun of it, because it seems senseless to demand immunity from punishment just because these people are famous rappers.

But tomorrow, Lil Wayne goes to jail, and it hit me. How can you arrest Lil Wayne? We need to stand up to this, people. We can’t hold Lil Wayne to our petty, human laws. For a gun? Shit, expecting Lil Wayne to abide by the laws is as ridiculous as expecting Allen Iverson to go to practice – fucking practice, not the game – practice. I’m just glad they aren’t making him cut his hair. This giggling goblin still greets me in my nightmares.

In all seriousness, I’ll miss Wayne’s presence for the next year however long they decide to hold him, but I have a sneaking suspicion that he’s recorded enough material to hold us over for the next 3 centuries. Locking him up in a cell on Rikers Island may be the only possible way to give Dwayne a much needed break. Good luck, Lil Wayne, we’ll miss you, and we’ll be wearing our “Free Weezy” shirts until your return.

Update: Lil Wayne will not go to jail today. He had a toothache, and it requires dental surgery. So he will go to jail in March instead. No, I’m not joking.

Lupe Fiasco – "Lean"

I know how you guys love your Lupe Fiasco. Grab your forks and knives, here’s another one from Lupe. This is pretty hard for Lupe – the beat is driven by a low, pulsing synth that provides a dark backdrop, like a black stage with one spotlight on Mr. Fiasco.

UPDATE: This was labeled as LASERS material, but some people are saying that is false and this is probably an older unreleased track. From FakeShoreDrive: “Lean” was in fact recorded back in 2001 and was meant to be the first single off his Arista debut. The Buchanans produced it, and to my knowledge there are about 6 tracks recorded from these Lu + Buchanans sessions.

Videos! Wale – "My Sweetie" + "Pretty Girls"

Wale – My Sweetie (directed by tabi Bonney) from tabi Bonney on Vimeo.

I’m so glad this song got a video. This is absolutely one of my favorite Wale songs. I remember my first listen – that bass line fish hooked my lip and pulled me towards the sun. It’s got such a feel-good influence and I believe Wale sounds best over these live, energetic beats.

Saw it at The Maguire

Also, I guess I should post the “Pretty Girls” video too.

How To Make It In America (Mixtape)

I saw someone in the comments of Episode 1 of How To Make It In America ask about the song in the intro. Check out number 5. This mixtape is a great melting pot of styles. It is definitely worth the download. Link at the bottom.

Via DatNewCudi: HBO teamed up with Kid Cudi, DJ Green Lantern & Broke Mogul (DECON) to create “How to Make it In America: The Mixtape”. Hosted by Cudi, he chimes in through out the mixtape discussing the cast, show and his acting aspirations.
