New! The Knife – "The Colouring Of Pigeons"

The Knife recently announced that they would be releasing some new material through Soundcloud and today they deliver. No silly little pop songs here. This is an intense, frigid 11 minute song but you can’t mistake it for anyone other than The Knife. When I read the description, I was immediately turned off. After one listen through the whole song, I changed my mind. It’s not at all the blippy 4 minute pop song that you might have expected/wanted from The Knife, but they’ve crafted a really great piece here. Listening to this song is like riding a slow moving roller coaster through the pitch black tundra – and enjoying it. Or maybe I just like the title for obvious personal reasons.

The Knife, in collaboration with Mt. Sims and Planningtorock, are to release the studio version of the opera ‘Tomorrow, In A Year’, on the 1st March 2010.

Commissioned by Danish performance group Hotel Pro Forma to write the music for their opera based on Charles Darwin and his book ‘On the Origin of the Species’, The Knife decided to make this a collaborative process, working with artists Mt. Sims and Planningtorock for the first time, to capture the huge width of the Darwin and evolution theme.

Yeah I thought that picture went well with the song, but I updated to the cover since you seemed so upset.
