Madlib – "Kill Em" ft Guilty Simpson (Remix)

I always say Madlib is one of my favorite producers, but he’s definitely not for everyone. There are so many different styles out there that the term “producer” seems to be in need of a prefix. You’ve got your sample-looping, scratching DJs like Premier and Babu, then you’ve got the big beat, synth heavy producers like Timbaland and Scott Storch, and there’s thousands of variations in between and outside of these extremes. Madlib is a crate-digging, jazzy, blazed out producer who’s worked with artists like MF DOOM, Talib Kweli, and Erykah Badu. His style is so far from Timbaland that job title is probably the only thing they have in common. I think the most comparable producer out there today is Flying Lotus, but I’d take Madlib over Lotus any day. Here’s some info on this new track courtesy of Shake:

This is the first of a one-a-month, twelve-CD series from Madlib on his own imprint, Madlib Invazion. Madlib Medicine Show No. 1: Before The Verdict is a full 17-track hip-hop album with original tracks and “the OJ Simpson remixes” featuring Guilty Simpson. Consider it a prelude to Madlib & Guilty’s collab OJ Simpson. There are two brief guest appearances by MED and J Dilla, in a short, previously unreleased interlude dating back to his & Madlib’s first collaboration. An 8-page booklet with track list is included in the CD.
