Video! Was B.o.B the 2009 Underground Artist of the Year?

Here’s a video declaring B.o.B the underground artist of 2009. I’m not completely sure who made this, but it highlights some of B.o.B’s work in 2009 and features a couple clips of Eminem and T.I. speaking on Bobby’s talent. Over the span of 2009, we got to hear B.o.B aka Bobby Ray’s sound morph several times. We heard him on that classic Southern rap style, the futuristic space flow and then of course his sing-along pop rock jams. It’s exciting to track and artist like Bobby because you can never really predict his next move, but you can rest assured that it’s going to sound good.

Do you agree? Was B.o.B the 2009 underground artist of the year?

Sole Covers Kanye West

“Sole Covers Kanye West” – that’s what I read in my inbox. I would have immediately scrambled for some way to hear this if I had known it was true, but I assumed that it couldn’t be the Sole I was thinking of. It couldn’t be that scruffy, abstract-minded red head that used to be in Deep Puddle Dynamics. But it is.

Piece together beats taken from the likes of Kanye’s “Heartless”, Soulja Boy’s “Turn My Swag On” and Rick Ross’ “Every Day I’m Hustlin”, and a wide critique of social, political and world issues. Add Sole’s distinctive rap style and voice, and what have you? It’s Nuclear Winter, Sole’s first in an upcoming series of mixtapes.

Pretty fucking crazy. If you’ve been a follower of the underground hip-hop world for a while, you probably need to hear this to believe it. So check out a couple tracks below and download the whole mixtape here.

Sufjan Stevens – "Chicago" (Acoustic)

If you follow me on Twitter, you know I’ve been without internet for the past couple or few days (I don’t even know, because without it I feel like I’m just frozen in a timeless black hole. Just kidding, kind of.) Anyway, I learned that I could tether my Droid to my computer and get internet (whoa), so that’s how I’m doing this post. It’s pretty slow since my reception has always been shitty in my room, but I’m pretty tech-retarded (meaning slow – no offense) so this makes me feel really 2010.

I hate to think that I’m dependent on the internet, but I have become obsessed with keeping up with new music and without the internet, it’s really difficult to do that. I’m visiting my parents in FL so I keep hearing the same Plies song on Florida radio stations and I don’t even know what channel MTV is here. Oh well, it’s probably healthy to have a little break every now and then. When I finally do get internet back I can promise you that I will be back with an enraged, rabid compulsion to blog.

To test out this Droid-enabled blogging, I’m giving you this great acoustic version of Sufjan Stevens’ “Chicago”. When Come On, Feel The Illinoise! came out, it was instantly one of my favorite albums. It still sits high on my list of top albums of the decade. Somehow I missed this acoustic version of “Chicago” until recently. Check it out.

Video! G.O.O.D. Gone B.A.D.

Well not really good gone bad, but the good folks of G.O.O.D. music seem a little upset. Looks like it’s some shady sh*t going on behind the scenes that we don’t get to see. Above you see Kanye & below is Cudi.
