New! Prince Premieres 4 New Tracks 12/19

Here are four new tracks that Prince put out this morning. It’s always cool to hear what Prince is coming up with, but I expected a little more. With a song title like “4ever” I expected some over-the-top pop, but instead I get an upbeat pop-soul-rock combo that sounds like an over produced Ben Harper. “Wall of Berlin” sounds like Prince started writing a song and then decided he just wanted to shred for a couple minutes. “Crimson & Clover” borrows from “Wild Thing”…enough said. “Colonized Mind” is the standout track here. Saw them at EastofLA.

K’Naan – "Somalia"

K’Naan was born in Somalia and spent his childhood in the district of Wardhiigleey (“The Lake of Blood”). His poet father left for New York City and became a cab driver. He mailed hip-hop albums by Nas and Rakim to K’Naan. Even though he spoke no English, K’Naan mimiced the flows and sounds that he heard. As conditions in Somalia got worse, K’Naans mother petitioned for an exit visa and it was approved in 1991. K’Naan and his mother moved to Harlem, and later settled in a Somalian community in Canada, where K’Naan learned English and developed his skills. Crazy story right? He’s come a long way.

“So what you know about the pirates that terrorize the ocean?”

Drake’s "Say What’s Real" just hit me hard.

Thanks Tanisha! Drake goes in over Kanye’s “Say You Will”. The only reason I’ve ever paid much attention to Drake is because he’s been featured on so many Wayne songs. The more I listen, the more I realize this dude is talented. Then I listen to this. Damn! This took my opinion of Drake to a whole new level. How many emcees could go in on this beat and make it sound this good? Sorry for sleeping, Drake. Check the lyrics on this.

“Don’t ever forget the moment you began to doubt, Transitioning from fitting in to standing out.”

Bloc Party – The Prayer (Does It Offend You Yeah? Remix)

Good looking out Edgar! Don’t know how new or old this is but I hadn’t heard it. This sounds like a great song for a chase scene in a movie. DIOYY know how to bring the musical suspense. Check it out.
